Graduate Certificate in Gerontology

The 18 hour program for a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology is designed for Registered Occupational Therapists and students enrolled in the MS Occupational Therapy program who wish to pursue graduate study in the area of gerontology. The three required OT courses focus on the role of occupational therapy with the elderly, OT assessment of the elderly, and the role of OT in family centered care.

OTH 5613  Healthy Aging for Health Professions (Online) 
GEY 5005 Issues in Gerontology for Health Professions (Online) 
SOW 5641 Understanding the Process of Aging 
NGR 5250 Physical Change and Healthy Aging 
HAS 5226 Management of Long Term Care Systems

Occupational Therapy Elective Courses 9 credits

OTH 5600 Study of Gerontology as Related to Occupational Therapy 
OTH 5630 Assessment of the Elderly 
OTH 5603 Role of Occupational Therapy in Family Centered Care of the Elderly 

Relationship to Master’s Program 
Completion of four of the six courses for the gerontology certificate will count toward a Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
